America, Inspiring: Dvořák’s "New World" Symphony & Poetry by Maria Mazziotti Gillan and Patrick Rosal

NJSO’s Winter Festival closes on Sunday, January 28th with the treasured symphony that embodies America’s embrace of creativity, Dvořák’s “New World.” And at 3 pm that day at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ. The concert will be followed by a poetry reading featuring poets Maria Gillan and Patrick Rosal, who will reflect on their own immigrant experiences in the closing event of the Winter Festival.

MARIA MAZZIOTTI GILLAN is a recipient of the 2014 George Garrett Award for Outstanding Community Service in Literature from AWP (Association of Writers & Writing Programs), the 2011 Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award from Poets & Writers and the 2008 American Book Award for her book, All That Lies Between Us (Guernica Editions). She is the Founder /Executive Director of the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ, and editor of the Paterson Literary Review.

PATRICK ROSAL is the author of four full-length poetry collections. His newest book, Brooklyn Antediluvian (2016), was a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Award for Poetry. Previously, Boneshepherds (2011) was named a small press highlight by the National Book Critics Circle and a notable book by the Academy of American Poets. He is also the author of My American Kundiman (2006), and Uprock Headspin Scramble and Dive (2003). His collections have also been honored with the Association of Asian American Studies Book Award, Global Filipino Literary Award and the Asian American Writers Workshop Members' Choice Award.
